POSITION DESCRIPTION: This is a unique opportunity for a visionary leader to have a significant impact on an exceptional 21st century rural community. Under the general direction of the Board of Trustees, the Library Director is responsible for the planning, implementation, supervision and evaluation of all library services and programs. The ideal candidate will be a library champion capable of inspiring and advocating for an engaged community and a committed library staff; a relationship builder and effective communicator able to serve as the face of the libraries; a proven administrator capable of implementing a strategic plan and leading the charge toward new service frontiers; and a collaborative, trustworthy, and empathetic manager with a strong work ethic who can support a high-performing team with respect and openness.
KEY OPPORTUNITIES: To continue to transform the Library to meet changing user needs, including the challenge of finishing the construction of a new 14,000 sq. ft. facility.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program AND five (5) years of relevant experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving history; Personal transportation that can be used for business travel is required.
SALARY RANGE: $53,000 – $63,000
BENEFITS: Paid health, dental, and vision insurance. Paid short-term and long-term disability and life insurance. Required participation in Kentucky’s County Employees Retirement System (6% employee contribution, 21% employer contribution). Optional participation in Kentucky Deferred Compensation (no employer match).

The Henry County Public Library is located in Eminence, KY, which is centrally located between Louisville (30 minutes) and Lexington (1 hour). The library serves a countywide population of 16,000. The staff and community are thrilled to have begun construction on a long-awaited new facility expected to open in fall of 2019. A small but mighty staff of 5 full-time and 11 part-time employees enjoys trying new and creative ideas to make their library ever more relevant to the community. Currently, the library enjoys partnerships with over 21 local agencies and businesses.
