Drop Your Drawers at the Library!

Posted by suzanne on

The library is currently accepting donations for our annual Drop Your Drawers underwear drive.  You can drop off packages of NEW underwear (boy and girls sizes 4-16) at the library or bookmobile.  Donations will be given to both Eminence and Henry County Family Resources centers to be used in elementary schools.

The need for this supply is great.  Schools are handing out over 40 pairs  a month to children who need clean underwear due to accidents at school or issues at home.  Because caregivers often are unable to bring fresh underwear to their children during school hours, children can miss valuable learning time in the classroom.

The library will be accepting donations until September 30th.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Posted by suzanne on

Families of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are invited to join our new 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program.  The  program challenges families to read 1000 books together before a child’s first day of kindergarten.  Because reading together early has been linked to school success, this challenge aids in getting a child ready for school while promoting positive family interaction.  Families will receive small incentives throughout their adventure to reach 1000 books and the library will be hosting special programs for participants.  Upon reaching 1000 books, children receive a certificate, book, and special photo magnet to commemorate their accomplishment.  Every 100 books read also earns an entry into drawings held every two months for a backpack full of kindergarten school supplies.

The library will be kicking off program registration on February 4th with a special activities from 5-8 p.m. beginning with at special Story Time at 5 p.m. in the Children’s Room.  Loose parts, including the big blue blocks, and special art activities will be available in the meeting room.
