Library Updates

Amnesty For All

Posted by travis on

We know the stress you’ve been dealing with right now.  We’ve felt it, too. That’s why we are waiving all fines and fees for lost or damaged materials prior to February 10, 2020 when we closed due to our move and had to stay closed because of COVID-19.

We want you to be well, and we want you to be able to use your library when we reopen.  In the meantime, take care of yourselves and your loved ones.  We’re taking care of all your fines.

Library Services Update

Posted by travis on

Governor Beshear announced at his press conference yesterday that libraries would be allowed to reopen June 8th.

While this is very exciting news, we want to be upfront with our community about what this does and does not mean.

The Governor stated that specific guidelines and building capacity limits would be announced soon.  Therefore, we still do not know exactly what reopening is going to look like.  We know that it will not be “business as usual.”  There will be new rules, new procedures, and service limitations.  Some of these may be temporary and some may be long term.

Before our closure, it was common for hundreds of people to enter our building each day.  Many people each day touched the same books, computers, newspapers, study tables, bathroom sinks, doors, etc.  It was common for large groups to sit in close quarters in our meeting rooms to experience a program together.  Because we are an environment that is designed for people to browse, linger, and share common resources…reopening in the midst of a world-wide pandemic has serious implications.

We’re eager to welcome you back and for you to see our wonderful new building!  But we want to do it safely.  Therefore, we will need to go slowly at first.  There is a lot for us to figure out in the weeks to come and we will be able to make more decisions once those additional guidelines are released.  We will do our very best to keep you, our valued patrons, informed along the way.

In the meantime, we are fine-tuning our new curbside hold pick up service and plan to launch it next Wednesday, May 27th.  We will share more details in the coming days about how it will work.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support as we navigate this “new normal” together!
